Bonding and White Fillings
Dr. Haack offers restorative dentistry that’s also esthetic, meaning the restorations blend naturally with tooth enamel for a natural, attractive result. The most common dental restoration, the filling, repairs cavities. Today, we offer custom-tinted, composite resin, white fillings that are metal- and mercury-free. The resin we use for fillings is the same material we use in dental bonding to repair chips, cover stains, or close gaps between teeth.
If you’d like to learn more about tooth-colored restorations, like white fillings and cosmetic bonding, schedule a consultation with Dr. Haack today, in our Alexandria, MN dental office. Call 320-763-7484 now.
Dr. Joseph Haack treats patients with all kinds of dental maladies. Whether you have a simple cavity or need braces to straighten your smile, the doctor can help you out.
One of the most common procedures the doctor performs is the placement of dental crowns. Dental crowns fit over teeth to provide strength and protection, and the doctor has many uses for them, such as repairing damaged teeth and covering teeth after root canal therapy. Dr. Haack can even place dental crowns as restorations for dental implants.
Patients missing one or more teeth have several options to restore their smile. For some patients, a dental bridge may provide the best option. A bridge typically includes two dental crowns on either end of one or more prosthetic teeth. The prosthetic dental device derives its name from the fact that it literally bridges the gap created by a missing tooth or teeth. Dr. Joseph Haack has years of experience and continuing education in the field of creating and placing dental bridges, and provides them to his patients regularly.
Dental implants can support most types of restorations. Whether you are missing one tooth or all of them, an implant-supported restoration will provide you with a beautiful, dependable smile. Restorations supported include:
- Dental Crowns – A single implant can support a dental crown. Once placed and healed, the doctor will attach a crown to the implant, bonding it in place.
- Dental Bridge – Much like a crown, the doctor bonds this restoration in place after the implant heals. Patients prefer implant-supported bridges because they require no attachment to other teeth. Traditional dental bridges, supported by crowns attached to healthy teeth, require the removal of some of the healthy tooth’s surface.
- Dentures – Dental implants can support partial or full dentures. The doctor typically bonds partial dentures in place, while most sets of full dentures remain removable. Full dentures snap on and off of the implants with ease, yet they provide superior stability to traditional dentures, with no slipping.
Dr. Joseph Haack may recommend extracting a tooth for one of several reasons. The tooth may have suffered damage beyond repair, or may have an infection that the doctor needs to remove before it can spread. You may need one or more teeth removed before orthodontic treatment or to prevent overcrowding as adult teeth erupt. Wisdom teeth can become infected or impacted.
Whatever the reason, Dr. Haack will either perform the extraction or help you setup an appointment at an oral surgeons office.
Dental Hygiene and Gum Disease
When you think about dentistry and dental care, teeth are probably the first thing that come to mind. After all, “dental” means “relating to teeth.” However, gum health (periodontal care) is an important part of overall oral health.
Your gums, jawbone, and connective tissues are responsible for holding your teeth securely in place. Unhealthy gums lead to gum disease, which causes loose teeth and tooth loss. Our dental hygiene team is trained, experienced, and prepared to administer excellent periodontal care in our Alexandria, MN dental office.
If you play contact sports of any kind, a mouth guard is just as an important as the shoes you wear and should be considered an essential part of your equipment gear. Wearing mouth guards during contact sports, such as football, hockey, lacrosse, wrestling, basketball, and baseball can protect your oral health.
Mouth guards are able to prevent oral and structural damage to your teeth and jaws, as well as prevent lacerations from occurring to your tongue, cheeks, and lips. Research has also proven that mouth guards can help reduce the risk of concussions. Dr. Joseph Haack can provide you with a customized, protective mouth guard that will comfortably fit over your teeth and gums.
It is important to follow instructions after you have oral surgery to ensure proper healing and to avoid complications. As a rule of thumb, you should always wait two hours after surgery before eating to let the anesthesia wear off. Trying to eat before this could result in soft tissue damage because you are not able to feel all of your mouth. After your surgery the doctor or dental assistant will give you full instructions on how to properly recover from surgery.
Night Guard for Healthy Sleep
Sometimes patients need a little extra help to maintain a healthy set of teeth. Regular brushing and flossing can help prevent cavities and diseases, but they cannot do much for stopping teeth from wearing down or cracking. Patients with these issues often come to us wondering how their teeth ended up in such bad shape. For many of them, the answer is bruxism. Bruxism involves the grinding of teeth, and can quickly wear down teeth, even causing them to crack or break on occasion. Most people with bruxism grind their teeth while they sleep. Dr. Joseph Haack can create a night guard for you that will cease the grinding, saving your teeth and allowing you a good night’s sleep.
As a restorative and cosmetic dentist, Dr. Haack offers many orthodontic procedures that straighten crooked, widely spaced, overlapping, or protruding teeth. However, for some patients, orthodontics aren’t the most practical and rewarding treatment option. Dr. Haack sometimes suggests porcelain veneers, which are handmade ceramic shells that permanently cover the face of front teeth.
Veneers not only straighten teeth, but they also cover chips, permanent stains, and other flaws. Some call veneers the instant smile makeover, because in a single procedure, veneers can address an entire treatment plan of cosmetic procedures.
Many of our patients need teeth whitening. Our patients come into the office and they complain that their smiles have lost that bright, white look. They may have stains that won’t go away, or their teeth may have turned a dull shade of yellow.
Some of these people turn to whitening toothpastes that they find n their local pharmacy, but those only provide limited results, and they remain unhappy, hiding their discolored smiles whenever possible.
Dr. Joseph Haack can help, with professional whitening treatments. The treatments are customized to the patients’ mouths, and they can do the treatment in the comfort of their own homes.
